My Purpose Wear

 As an educator, I often wear many hats. In addition to being a teacher, I am a surrogate parent, a counselor, a mentor, a coach, and a role model.  Two years ago, I had a student who became troubled when he noticed a difference in the treatment he received when behaving in the same manner as two other classmates. All 3 students were African-American males the troubled student had much more melanin than the other two. This realization led him to me One particular rainy day; he needed to pour out his 12 year old feelings concerning his future. He believed his future would be short-lived And his memory would live on through t-shirts worn at his funeral. Of course this revelation made me extremely sad and I needed a way to give him hope. So, I decided to create a T-shirt to motivate and encourage him to look forward to his future. This made him smile and show his gorgeous dimples. After the initial creation, I received several more requests and knew I had to keep creating ways to uplift and inspire with “Sayings on Shirts.”
